Playing with fire

In some ways this story, seen on Twitter, is related to yesterday’s post about Pakistanis fighting Roma:

16 Vancouver women facing human rights complaints for refusing to wax transgender woman’s male genitalia

“JY” publicly identifies as a woman, but still has all the male parts.  In recent months, JY approached 16 Vancouver-area female estheticians who only serve women, requesting a “Brazilian” bikini wax on his groin area.

In spite of the fact that JY is able to obtain a Manzilian in Vancouver, JY has filed 16 complaints against these women at the BC Human Rights Tribunal, claiming discrimination on the basis of “gender identity.”

It is similar because it represents yet another example of the government creating protected classes in order to advance political agendas, and gifting them special rights and privileges which result in ludicrous yet predictable outcomes bringing misery to ordinary people.

As we saw in the US, no sooner did the Supreme Court grant homosexuals the right to marry in the name of equality when activists went from establishment to establishment looking for someone to accuse of discrimination. It was only a matter of time before transsexuals started doing the same thing, and Justin Trudeau’s Canada was the logical place to start. That the whole thing is a shake-down is obvious:

One of them, Shelah Poyer, is a single mom who works out of her home.  JY was willing to withdraw his complaint in exchange for $2,500.

If JY is demanding similar sums from the other 14 women, he stands to receive as much as $35,000 for dropping his human rights complaints.

It’s a handy racket, one that Jessie Jackson deployed in the US for years to good effect. But it does leave me wondering how many of these women now being clobbered by insane legislation initially supported it, confident it would eradicate bigotry as they saw it? Or at least, how many voted for the government that’s brought it in? Feminists were quite happy to use bad law to bludgeon men into submission, and now they’re finding men in dresses are using those same laws against them. Whose fault is that, then?

That said, I think the trannies might be overplaying their hand here. As I’ve remarked before, gays are largely accepted in western societies because there are enough of them around that anyone my age knows a few, and most of them will be normal, decent people. It’s a similar story with blacks in the UK: once you go to school with a few black lads, eat meals, play sport, and joke around with them it’s rather uncomfortable to hear people talking about “jungle bunnies” and the like, and you’d rather disassociate from those who do. If you see those pictures of black men being beaten senseless by police in the civil rights era for standing in the wrong place, it’s hard not to sympathise. Similarly, when Iran hangs young men for being gay you wonder if it wouldn’t be too much trouble just to leave them the hell alone.

But with trannies it’s different, because there simply aren’t enough of them. If gays make up around 2-5% of any given population, it’s enough that you’ll get to know a few and realise they’re not insane. But trannies are around 0.1% of the population or thereabouts, and few people know any outside a trip to a Bangkok nightclub they’d rather forget. While I’m sure there are transsexuals who are reasonable, decent people who generally want to be left alone, the ones the public see appear to be in desperate need of treatment for mental illness. And to make matters much worse, those in the public eye have adopted a nasty authoritarian streak aimed at forcing the ordinary public to share in their delusions. This will not end well.

I’m not entirely sure that gays, if the more militant of them continue to act as they do, will not be subject to an appalling backlash in at least one western country. Their approach to the ordinary population is perilous enough, so where does that leave trannies? Out on a limb, that’s where. Few will have much sympathy if some bloke in a frock launches a program of aggressive extortion against women and ends up unconscious in a ditch somewhere.

The fault lies squarely with western governments and progressives who support these insane policies. We often hear how dangerous it is being transsexual, usually in articles which ignore the fact an awful lot of them work as street prostitutes. By passing laws which encourage these people, who are usually mentally unstable to begin with, to go around ruining the lives of strangers they’re making it all the more likely they’ll come to grievous harm. Politicians of all stripes need to get a grip of this, rid the statute books of these insane laws favouring certain groups, and stop this extortion racket before someone gets seriously hurt.

  1. But with trannies it’s different, because there simply aren’t enough of them.

Plus, they’re mental, which I think works for them in the short term (hard to argue with a nutter) but will go against them in the longer term.

It will be interesting to see what the outcome of any court case is.

  2. Where does identity politics end. Surely we must be getting to the point where we are scraping the bottom of the barrel of finding new classes of victims.

I know we occasionally see the fringes of freaky – people who identify as cats or identify as babies and such like. But there’s no way this will ever be normalised is there? And if so, what then?

Will someone try and identify as a sperm, so therefore have a right to swim towards the nearest egg?!?

  3. Much of this craziness has descended into a series left-on-left civil war battles. Wimmin vs trannies is a good one. Pikeys vs RoPers another. The revolution is going to eat itself.
Astute investors will be buying popcorn shares as the rest of us look on in glee.

  4. Surely the heading should be “Playing With Fuzz”

Unless its private part was really on fire, of course. Or ginger.

(But agree with earlier comments: the left cannot wait to eat itself)

  5. It all seems glumly inevitable to me.
If you base social or political reward on claims to victimhood, then eventually you’re going to draw in the class who generally out-compete in every other field – angry young men. Especially unstable angry young men with no sense of shame. And they will win this game of victimhood poker by playing a lot harder and dirtier than everyone else. The result will not be pretty.

  6. Off topic: Any way to find out if the captain of the Norwegian frigate that has got itself run over by a tanker is female? I seem to remember seeing a ‘women in the navy’ article a way back that included Norway.
(Yes. I am a bad person).

  7. Some things should be regulated with convention and good manners. Some things need laws. Don’t mix the two up.

  8. Any way to find out if the captain of the Norwegian frigate that has got itself run over by a tanker is female?

I confess, I wondered the same.

  9. Meh…. Shrugs shoulders. All these issues will be sorted out soon and I have zero sympathy for any of them.

  10. Feminists were quite happy to use bad law to bludgeon men into submission, and now they’re finding men in dresses are using those same laws against them. Whose fault is that, then?

The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout “Save us!”… and I’ll look down and whisper “No.”

They had a choice, all of them. They could have followed in the footsteps of good men like my father or President Truman. Decent men who believed in a day’s work for a day’s pay. Instead they followed the droppings of lechers and communists and didn’t realize that the trail led over a precipice until it was too late. Don’t tell me they didn’t have a choice. Now the whole world stands on the brink, staring down into bloody Hell, all those liberals and intellectuals and smooth-talkers… and all of a sudden nobody can think of anything to say.

One benefit of being a hoary old comics geek is watching all the villains created by lefty British comic writers in the 1980s turn out to be right.

gays are largely accepted in western societies because there are enough of them around that anyone my age knows a few, and most of them will be normal, decent people.

My experience with every homosexual I’ve ever known has been the same as with every polyamorist I’ve ever known: no matter what they say, simple observation reveals a deeply unhappy, deeply disturbed individual deeply in denial about their own choices.

  11. These “Human Rights Tribunal” are an utter racket. Read Mark Steyn’s run-ins with them over the years. Kangaroo courts with no due process, it won’t cost the loony a penny, the defendants will incur huge costs defending themselves and they are guilty unless they can prove themselves innocent anyway.

  12. Look, the main problem is that someone who doesn’t want to wax a penis, or someone who isn’t old enough to get social security, or a former man who can’t play in women’s sports…none of this is discrimination.

If someone wants to formally identify as 69 years old, fine, but there needs to be a record somewhere of their real age and the laws need to work around that, to the point of not giving them any special benefits they don’t deserve. Similarly, with transgender people, issues such as this, women’s sport, bathrooms, et cetera…need to be sorted out on their own terms. If someone wants to identify their gender as whatever, that’s fine, but groups that want to discriminate based on sex (i.e. women’s groups and bathrooms) should still be able to do that.

  13. Playing with fire?

I thought it was going to be This

Seven year out alone at night playing with fireworks? WTF is wrong with his parents?

NHS would have been better letting him win a Darwin award.

  14. >Politicians of all stripes need to get a grip of this, rid the statute books of these insane laws favouring certain groups, and stop this extortion racket before someone gets seriously hurt.

That’s assuming (a) politicans are rational; and (b) politicians are capable of going against the people who really run things. If they were those things already then we would never have had the craziness we’ve had in the last ten-fifteen years.

  15. I’d have to disagree about British blacks, I lived in Toxteth for 25 years and was heavily involved in life with black people in every way possible. The more I saw the less I liked and the more I heard of their views on white brits ( ball heads or john bulls to the locals) the more apparent it became we would never be truly equal or friends so I left.

  16. Patrick @3.23pm & Tim @4.13pm: wrt to the KNM «Helge Ingstad», its commander is a bloke, according to this published 4 days ago: Kommandørkaptein Preben Ottesen. (Also, fairly definitely an actual bloke, not someone who ‘identifies’ or has had the op.)
However, note pic at top of article: Septic excluded, out of six crew members visible, at least three are bints (figure peeking behind beardie has a long fringe for a male; woman to front is a ‘Løytnant’).
And that’s a good thing! They are small and nimble, and I read recently on this site that ‘small and nimble’ is where it’s at when it comes to sailoring: so, all is for the best in this the best of all possible worlds.

Talking about ‘small, nimble’ women, came across this: “Report: Security lapses led to fatal confrontation at Norfolk”, Navy Times, 17 Mar 2015.

The fully armed ECP sentry yelled for him to stop and provide identification; Savage did not comply with her direction. … The POOW drew her firearm and pointed it at the deck. Savage, who had exhibited no threatening behavior up to this point, reportedly said “give me that gun” and wrestled for her 9mm pistol. The POOW, much smaller than the male trucker, couldn’t disengage the safety in time. As they struggled, the OOD also tried to gain control of the pistol. Savage “forcibly spun” the sailor, throwing her several feet onto the ship’s lifelines, where he seized her pistol, the report said. At that moment, Mayo landed on the quarterdeck and placed himself between the POOW and Savage, who was aiming the gun at her. Mayo was shot once in the front, then spun to cover the sailor and was shot three times in the back. Mayo was posthumously awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the highest non-combat heroism award. Mayo’s partner, armed with a pistol, and Mahan’s roving patrol, armed with an M16, opened fire. The POOW pulled herself from under Mayo and the ship’s 25 mm gun mount, drew her baton and prepared to take on Savage, but he fell to the ground, mortally wounded.

    So:
    • Female (civilian police) guard on gate also a waste of rations.
    • Female Petty Officer felt need to draw pistol, possibly escalating situation (‘Savage … had exhibited no threatening behavior up to this point’).
    • Female Petty Officer had pistol successfully wrestled from her by the larger male.
    • Female Petty Officer was ‘forcibly spun’ and thrown ‘several feet onto the ship’s lifelines’.
    • Male sailor felt need to white knight and sacrifice his life for hers.
    • The official report highlighted female PO’s ‘heroism’ ahead of the genuine bravery of the dead sailor: ‘individual failures of key individuals were matched by the heroism of a petty officer of the watch, who was prepared to engage a gunman with only a baton after numerous shots were already fired, or that of a selfless master at arms who gave his life shielding that same petty officer of the watch and the crew of the USS Mahan.’

    Political correctness kills.

  17. We are quickly returning to the time when Mafiosi will create violent gangs to protect innocent citizens attacked by weird trolls and their statist enablers.

The reality behind the fictional Vito Corleone was grim and we seem to be re-creating it. It is much cheaper and less stressful to hire someone to beat or kill the troll than suffer and pay for years.

  18. Male sailor felt need to white knight and sacrifice his life for hers.

One of the arguments against mixed combat units I used to hear Back In The Day was that aside from the fraternization problems, it was bad for unit cohesion because the male soldiers would instinctively act to protect the female ones to the detriment of their operational orders.

  19. The more I saw the less I liked and the more I heard of their views on white brits ( ball heads or john bulls to the locals) the more apparent it became we would never be truly equal or friends so I left.

For sure, people will have different experiences.

  20. More on Norway’s new submarine.

    (Online translated)

In Forsvarets Forum No. 2 in 2017 [official armed forces magazine] it was read that “Four out of five navigators on frigate KNM Helge Ingstad are women”.

When more women can work together, it becomes easier to find out and create a more balanced defense, writes Forsvarets Forum.

It is still not clear which mistakes were made and by whom. Nor has it come out publicly who the current commander of the bridge was, other than that it was a navigation officer. …
But there is reason to demand that the commissions that look at the cause of this accident also look more widely at the processes and changes in the Armed Forces. Should a main point of the Armed Forces be that women should find their place and to use the energy of “Integration” and create a “balanced” working environment?
For the Armed Forces in the politically correct age, increasing the number of women in the agency has become an end in itself. …
