More Sado than Macho

According to Met Chief and Slaughterer of Innocent Brazilians Cressida Dick:

The macho image of male police officers dealing with terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower disaster could be putting off women from joining the Met, Scotland Yard chief Cressida Dick said today.

She said the terror attacks in London in 2017, when mainly male firearms officers were deployed on the streets, and the Grenfell fire in the same year had led to a mistaken view of policing as a “very physical service”.

Ah yes, who can forget the macho image portrayed by Craig Mackey:

The acting Metropolitan Police commissioner locked himself in his car as he watched terrorist Khalid Masood kill one of his colleagues in Westminster because he had “no protective equipment and no radio,” he has told an inquest.

Sir Craig Mackey, now deputy commissioner of Scotland Yard, said that despite witnessing Masood “purposefully” lunge at everyone in his path with a butcher’s knife, he realised that had he got out of his vehicle, he would have been a target.

Instead, he remained in his black saloon car, within the Palace of Westminster, and witnessed Masood, 52, fatally stab PC Keith Palmer.

I expect more women are put off joining by the abject cowardice in the Met’s leadership than images of tough-looking blokes out on patrol.

Ms Dick told the Standard: “People have got it into their heads that you have to be supremely fit or strong when actually the vast majority of our officers, most of the time, are not using huge amounts of physical strength to get the job done. They are using their communication skills, their problem-solving skills and their analytical skills.”

Indeed, what use is physical force on the streets of London:

Violent suspects could be released by police if officers do not get “backed up” by members of the public, a federation leader has warned.

Ken Marsh spoke out after a video of officers being attacked was shared widely on social media.

The video, taken in Merton, south London, on Saturday, shows a man aim a flying kick at a female officer, who is left clutching her head just yards away from a passing bus.

Another male officer is dragged across the road as he tries to stop a second suspect from running away.

The male officer suffered cuts and the female officer was left with head injuries.

Every few months a video circulates on the internet showing a feral thug getting the better of a policeman in a physical confrontation, but apparently the problem is they’re a bit too macho.

The Met commissioner said more had to be done to challenge the “stereotypes and myths” of policing as a macho culture.

Oh, don’t worry, that myth is dead and buried. The current perception of the Met police is they’re a mix of vanity-ridden wannabes who bully people from behind a computer screen and the paramilitary arm of the social studies department of a third-rate former polytechnic. And none realise this more than the knife-wielding criminals who operate in the capital with impunity.

It’s not about *most* of the time. When the shit hits the fan we want the police to be able to respond appropriately and that usually means physical strength. If I’m being mugged I don’t care about their communication skills, I want them to be bigger, stronger and more aggressive than the mugger.

  2. It’s not about *most* of the time.

Indeed, most soldiers aren’t required to kill someone but they’d better be prepared to if and when the time comes.

  3. Ms Dick told the Standard: “[The police] are using their communication skills, their problem-solving skills and their analytical skills.”

Concerning the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, was that not an example of police communications and analysis?

    Best regards

  4. Poor old Troilus Twat – her perception of how police are perceived is frighteningly wide of the mark. It can’t be a coincidence that she fails to mention the lackadaisical response by plod to the London riots, can it?

  5. I’ll agree to making policing less macho to try and attract more women when society agrees to make nursing and primary school teaching more physically confrontational to attract more male applicants, deal?

  6. “The macho image of male police officers dealing with terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Tower disaster”

Presumably she means the arrest of six men for uploading those disastrous pictures of the Grenfell effigy atrocity. You can still smell the testosterone…

  7. I wish lefties would actually explain what all this is for. I know it’s really to destroy western civilisation, but surely they have a bland excuse to cover their arses? Why does every company, profession etc need 50% (or, they hope, 100%) of positions filled by women? What does it actually achieve? Is it just so they can go ‘See!’ to someone? What, are wimmin just so awesome that productivity and excellence will skyrocket? Don’t see much evidence of that. Why do lefties pretend to ‘care’ and be all touchy-feely, when they don’t believe anyone should have free will or individual thought? If some jobs attract men more, some attract women, what the hell is so terrible about that? They bleat about ‘difference’, yet everyone must be different in the same way.

  8. The purpose of having a police force is to offer well-paid careers with great benefits to deserving citizens. Actually policing is a secondary goal.

Critical thinkers might also wonder if less-physical force members are not being assigned to those positions where might is not a criterion, while the jobs that need muscle are occupied by the more muscular?

  9. I’m sure you’ve seen various YouTube and Twitter videos of small female police officers being easily overpowered and laughed at by burly lawbreakers. The frequency of such interactions and the circulation of such footage seem likely to have unhappy consequences, not least in terms of demoralising both the public and the police, and encouraging more of the same. Hiring police officers who are physically unable to enforce lawfulness, even in pairs, or even in threes, and who are openly mocked by criminal thugs, is, shall we say, suboptimal.

But apparently, it’s more important to have women “in every role,” at “fifty percent,” because people mustn’t “see policing as primarily a male-dominated job.”

Honk, honk, as the kids say.

  10. Last week round my way there were 14 plod (Transport, community, Met) gathered at the usual place, a bus stop.
    Sometimes I’ve counted 24.
    What are they doing?
    Checking for fare dodgers.

  11. I didn’t think the Met could do any worse than the PC weasel that preceded Dick. What a naive fool I am!

Violent suspects could be released by police if officers do not get “backed up” by members of the public, a federation leader has warned.

F*ck you Ken. If I thought you or any of your members were standing up for me I might be more prepared to stick my neck out.

  12. “Every few months a video circulates on the internet showing a feral thug getting the better of a policeman in a physical confrontation, but apparently the problem is they’re a bit too macho.”

Not so sure the latter isn’t a fair criticism. Dealing with the uniformed thugs, that’s not far off the impression you get. Except for the “bit “part. They shamble about like ill dressed event security guards. Claiming authority but rarely demonstrating any. They remind me somewhat of the Spanish police before they cleaned their act up. Never sure whether one’s supposed to bribe them or not.

I did 21 years in the US Navy – 99% of the time I was using my communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. But when that 1% comes up it is absolutely essential that EVERYONE can put their back into it – as lives are on the line.

  14. I dunno Tim, you’re so judgemental.

I mean you cause the death of one Brazilian on the tube by having him shot seven times in the head while being held down and people constantly get on your back about it. Happens ALL the time.
    blimey

I’m sure it upsets her girlfriend too !

  15. @ottokring

…and C Dick’s girlfriend openly smokes cannabis, but that’s OK as the Dick can’t smell it. Same excuse for Heroin, Cocaine, Ectasy etc?

    +1 Nailed it.

Ignore crims, fine innocent on trumped up charge

Police State? Fines And Facial Recognition

The Metropolitan Police have been trialling the use of facial recognition in different parts of London

  17. In this link, the Police are using those fine skills that the Dick (dick by name, dick by nature … but not THAT kind of dick you sexist pig!) to ensure civil disturbance by the RoP. They are escorting a large number of RoP protesters to a Tommy Robinson rally with their faces hidden (unlike the guy that was charged with a breach of the peace for covering his face to hide from the facial recognition cameras):

One law for them, one for the rest of society. When the law is applied selectively then that is a recipe for civil war but unless and until the public realise that the Police are merely the armed and uniformed branch of the Socialist party and the enemy, actively and spitefully carrying out their role then this delusion will continue …

Besides which, what happened to the “Don’t be a have a go hero. Leave it to the professionals” mantra that the Police were parroting a while ago?

  18. Mackey would have made a very big target. Since when is getting stabbed in the lard life threatening?

  19. Violent suspects could be released by police if officers do not get “backed up” by members of the public, a federation leader has warned.

Is this before or after being warned by the police for the hundredth time about ‘vigilante actions’? You helped create this situation – ‘leave it all to the professionals’. Er, OK, but you can’t handle it. Now it’s ‘we will have a tantrum and throw our toys if you don’t stop leaving it to the professionals’.

I mean, look at that incident he was describing. Tooled up police officers with CS spray or whatever it is, truncheon etc getting a kicking – as a civilian, what am I supposed to do that they can’t? Still, I would have Cressida Dick with an onion under her eye saying how “her thoughts and prayers are with my family at this difficult time”.

  20. When they cease being the ThoughtPolice and go back to being the Police then I’ll entertain the thought, briefly, of assisting them.

  21. “Violent suspects could be released by police if officers do not get “backed up” by members of the public, a federation leader has warned.”

If I’m not allowed to use violence to protect myself, family and property without risk of going to jail for a very long time because some copper or prosecutor didn’t approve, and even if the jury acquits the process is the punishment, why should I risk it for said coppers?

What REALLY happened at Muslim riot in Oldham

“Tommy Robinson’s EU Election campaign in Oldham was attacked by ~300 Muslim rioters on Saturday, many wearing masks and throwing rocks and bricks.

  23. Just as we struggle to find ways to overcome our rotten rulers, they come up with a plan to leave themselves wholly exposed.

Violence, or the promise of violence, is the base metal of any organised society. Everyone knows that if you are sufficiently unruly, violent men will be unleashed upon you. In “liberal democracies” it is the last resort (at least in theory) but it is a threat that must be real, albeit used very sparingly.

Our rulers get away with what they do because they believe that they are protected by rough men. Now they propose to make those rough men redundant.
