And just like that, I became an author

On October 26th 2016 I said:

If you want to write a book, you need to write a book.

So I did, and it’s here.

Window on a Burning ManSo far it’s only available on Kindle, but hopefully in the next few days the paperback version will be out as well.

The site I link to above is where I will run the serial I talked about, the first part of which will be published soon with a new installment following each week. There are 7 parts in all. The site can be accessed quickly by clicking on the picture of the book at the top of my sidebar. I have put the first chapter up as a teaser until the serial starts.

I have two favours to ask:

1. If anyone reading this runs a blog or a Twitter feed and you think your readers might be interested in this book, please consider writing a short post with a link to my book’s site to funnel them in its direction.

2. If you do buy a copy, or read the serial when it comes out, please write a review on Amazon. I’m not asking you to write a good review, or even an honest one, but reviews of any kind are vital to self-publishers and the more I can get the better.

Finally, a big thank you to the readers of this blog who gave me so much encouragement, support, and advice during the writing of it. I could probably have done it without you, but it would have been a lot harder and the end product much worse.

  1. “Finally, a big thank you to the readers of this blog who gave me so much encouragement, support, and advice during the writing of it. ”

You misspelt “abuse” six words from the end of that sentence.

  2. My wife cant put it down. You can only write one review per purchase so it’s a toss up between us who submits the review. Great value as well, same price as a small plate of fries with garlic mayo!

  3. How do we get our signed copies, Tim?

Once it’s approved by Amazon I’ll order some, and drop you an email for your address.

  4. And just like that, I became a purchaser.

But, to sort of quote the Harry Enfield character from the 90s, not nearly expensive enough! I’d have gone as far as £3.50

  5. I will send my personalised note and signature on a facsimile parchment of the acknowledgement page to you c/o your office address in Paris. Just let me know if you would like me to get it framed for you as well or would you prefer to organise your own frame on receipt and I will send the original stamped parchment in scroll only.

  6. “When will the Burning Man Festival sue you for violating their IPR?”

Surely they are far too hippy to do that?

  7. I have an idea for your next book/screenplay, Benji old boy.

Have a look at the Beeb’s current “thriller” McMafia. It’s obviously had a fortune lavished on it but is, to my taste, a dud. You know about rough-and-tumble Russia: write something along the same lines but better. You’ll get to cast all sorts of lovely lassies. You’ll need a tall, handsome, cryptic British male lead: sorry, I’m a bit too old for it now though I probably could do a turn as a sage old spymaster. Come to think of it, I could do it in my rather successful Sean Connery impersonation accent – wouldn’t that be an amusing allusion?

Anyhoo, there’s the recipe, the very secret of success – familiar but better. Unlike Hollywood where the recipe seems to be familiar but worse.

  8. I’m a bit too old for it now though I probably could do a turn as a sage old spymaster.

The only saving grace in the entire Mission Impossible fiasco films was Anthony Hopkins’ line, “To go to bed with a man, and lie to him? She’s a woman, she has all the training she needs.”

  9. Given you an Off Topic mention at Tim Worstall’s and David Thompson’s, Tim…
    Good luck!

  10. Congratulations Tim. Long time lurker on your excellent blog, and have just bought the book. Look forward to it.

  11. I bought the book yesterday for kindle. Today for “governmental reasons” my Amazon pay account has been suspended, but not before I was able to download it. Having not yet read more than the 1st chapter, I can only conclude that the remainder of the content is heretical, seen by TPTB as dangerous and not in line with government approved good-think. No doubt black helicopters are on their way Mr Newman.

    Good man!

  13. Congratulations Tim. I’ll be reading online before the paperback comes out. Will also post a link on my Facebook page (am guessing few of my friends may be a bit hostile though!)

  14. A great read Tim I have left my review on Amazon. Looking forward to the next one.

Good man, thanks! I’m glad you and your good wife enjoyed it!
