Operation Kavanaugh, Plan B

As if this business with Brett Kavanaugh couldn’t get any more farcical:

On Sunday, Deborah Ramirez, a Yale university classmate of the judge, told the New Yorker that Brett Kavanaugh had exposed his genitals at a dormitory party.

Ms Ramirez alleges the incident occurred when she was a freshman at Yale University alongside him during the 1983-84 academic year.

She says they were both taking part in a drinking game at a dormitory party where people sat in a circle and selected others to drink.

She says at one point a plastic penis was pointed in her direction by one man, and later another exposed himself directly.

“I remember a penis being in front of my face,” she said. “I knew that’s not what I wanted, even in that state of mind.”

It’s been obvious for several days that the Democrats had been wrong-footed by the GOP senators happily inviting Christine Blasey Ford to come and testify. This was never supposed to happen: the idea was they’d fold immediately and any due process would be conducted by the media. When Ford was asked to testify, they came up with increasingly bizarre excuses as to why she couldn’t, the latest one being that she is scared of confined spaces hence doesn’t like aeroplanes. Oddly, this didn’t stop her flying to Hawaii in the past.

With their plan unravelling and Ford risking perjuring herself before Kavanaugh’s nomination is scratched, the Dems had the weekend to put a Plan B in place. Step forward Deborah Ramirez:

The new accusation landed late Sunday in a report from The New Yorker, just a few hours after negotiators had reached an agreement to hold an extraordinary public hearing Thursday for Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford.

How convenient.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, called for the “immediate postponement” of any further action on Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Of course.

The New Yorker said it contacted Ramirez after learning of a possible incident with Kavanaugh. It said that the allegation came to the attention of Democratic senators through a civil rights lawyer. The Democrats then began investigating.

Remember, this is all about justice, not politics.

Ramirez was reluctant at first to speak publicly “partly because her memories contained gaps because she had been drinking at the time of the alleged incident,” The New Yorker reported. After “six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections” to speak publicly, the report said.

Carefully assessing her memories with her attorney? What does that involve, then? As commenter abacab points out, we’re basically into satanic-child-abuse-ritual-style territory here. Even if the GOP senators cave in and delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation, I reckon this is doing considerable damage to the Democrats. While the pink pussy hat brigade will still vote for them unflinchingly, ordinary people must be appalled by their behaviour over this. As several people have pointed out, if unfounded accusations of sexual assault dating back several decades can be used to take out anyone the progressives don’t like, how long before your husband, son, or brother is accused?

  1. A sociology and psychology graduate in a dead end non job.
She can’t remember if it was a real penis or not, or if it belonged to someone she once was at school with 33 years ago.
I’m no psychologist but I’ve heard of recovered memory, confabulation, attention seeking disorder… and plain old jealousy.

  2. Her flying phobia also didn’t stop her from taking a 3 day holiday in the mid-atlantic states 7-10 Aug this year (it’s in the letter to Feinstein). She must have flown California to Mida Atlantic is what 3-4000 km?

  3. Whilst backpacking in California in the early 90s, I think I was drugged at a party and sexually assaulted by a woman who looked like Kamala Harris OR Diane Feinstein.

I think the FBI should investigate.

I can’t recall the time, date or place but they could just use their Minority Report technology, surely?

  4. It seems that Ford did not originally send the letter to Feinstein. Instead, she sent it to a house representative (Anna G Eshoo) who has no investigatory authority or power. Usefully, this course of action means that Ford cannot be sued for false testimony on the basis of what is in the letter. HOWEVER, Feinstein can order such an investigation and if Ford now does give false testimony, then the consequences are a bit more severe:

Methinks that she will be panicking a wee bit if she is forced to testify and the testimony proves to be false.

Kavanaugh has diaries recording his activities around the time frame in question which, admittedly, it may be argued that he did not list every party he attended but faced with the balance of probability and the hard evidence of the diaries that have not been tampered with then it is looking like any reasonable jury would take Kavanaughs testimony over Fords.

It is a bit like a flack gun shooting at an aircraft. No bullet can be guaranteed to hit the aircraft but the more bullets shot, the better the chances one will connect. Hence the numbers of women coming out of the woodwork to claim sexual assault.

But it is starting to unravel and become a tangled ball of string:

I sincerely hope that she is sued for defamation and slander to the extent of her wealth. Pour encourage les autres, y’Understand …

  5. This isn’t plan B. It’s still part of the original Plan A. There will be an endless succession of these nonsense claims until either
    a) Kavanaugh withdraws: Democrats win
    b) Republican majority forces a vote and both Kavanaugh and the Republicans are then tainted forever with the taunt that a sex pest was confirmed: Democrats win
    c) it gets drawn out beyond the midterms: Democrats hope they will get a majority, vote him down and they win. Or the Democrats don’t win and it’s back to b) and they win.

What they miss is that an awful lot of people are looking at this with actual disgust and genuinely beginning to wonder if they ever want to let the Democrats anywhere near power. It’s almost as if they haven’t noticed the mood of the public that got Trump elected…

  6. This Ford character also wiped her social media profiles before all this came out, as she was (surprise, surprise) a hard-left activist.

I reckon this is doing considerable damage to the Democrats.

    Well, quite!

  7. If Kavanaugh is confirmed, Dems lose, full stop. Hence the histrionics. Anita Hill has had zero effect on a even one Supreme Court ruling.

Layman question: if “delay until midterms” is a viable strategy then why did Trump take so long to nominate his pick?

  8. Sam

“why did Trump take so long to nominate his pick?”

He didn’t. He already had a list out there from which he had said he would select his pick, when Kennedy retired in July he was pretty quick to pick Kavanaugh from it.

  9. The hypocrisy of these leftists is simply breathtaking. They had no such outrage when Clinton was shtupping interns in the oval office. Hell, Keith Ellison flat out abused his wife and what we get there is crickets. They are even waffling on Al Franken – maybe we were too hard.

Just once, I’d like to see republicans grow a pair. Grassley should have stiff-armed Feinstein, and said the committee would meet about this, on this day, have un-redacted copies of the letter sent to all members. Until that happens, the vote is still on. If an interview needed to happen, there’s webex, gotomeeting, and skype. I’m still betting Ford is a no show. I’d have made this Feinstein’s problem. You want justice? Too bad. Maybe this old fossil should have brought this up in the months she had opportunity.

I know what I’d say to these yentas – ‘Oh, so you were at a party where there was drinking when you were FIFTEEN, and some dude – maybe this dude, squeezed your tits and tried to get in your pants, but nothing happened. So what?”

And the other one – Ramirez – “So. You were at at drunken college party and some dude showed you his dick, and told you to touch it. And?..”
Hell, I’m roughly their ages. I’ve been to parties where a dude drops trou behind a girl on a couch, taps her shoulder, and she turns to look his nob in the face. It was funny. At least once, all the dude got was a nut slap.

And there is nothing funnier than a nut slap.

Neither can remember time nor place. None of their contemporaries corroborate any of this. Neither told anyone, not even their best friends. Highly unusual. And both have taken extraordinary measures to protect themselves from perjury.

This is a bullshit, flat out farce and shitshow. Hopefully, the lefties will pay for this in the long run.

  10. From today’s woodpile report http://www.woodpilereport.com/- Says it all.

“Sigh. On to the unavoidable brouhaha du jour. I find the transparently bogus accusations by Christine Ford, the grandstanding by her defenders and the overly indulgent defenders of Kavanaugh to be insufferably tedious. Sane adults would dismiss her allegations betimes and demand she stop stinking up the place on several grounds, lack of credibility chief among them. But nooooo. Everyone’s gotta take sides and have a food fight. Dump her off drunk in the vibrant part of DC, she’ll have something real to complain about and an epiphany at the same time.”
