{"id":7737,"date":"2018-07-04T08:43:11","date_gmt":"2018-07-04T06:43:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.desertsun.co.uk\/blog\/?p=7737"},"modified":"2018-07-04T08:43:11","modified_gmt":"2018-07-04T06:43:11","slug":"mcstork-happy-meal-and-sim-card-combo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.desertsun.co.uk\/blog\/7737\/","title":{"rendered":"McStork Happy Meal and SIM Card Combo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/amp\/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-44645217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This story<\/a> is amusing, and so very African:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"amp-o-paragraph--bold\">A Polish charity has received a huge phone bill after it lost a GPS tracker that it had placed on the back of a stork, it&#8217;s reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"amp-o-paragraph\">According to official broadcaster\u00a0Radio Poland\u00a0, the environmental EcoLogic Group placed a tracker on the back of a white stork last year to track the bird&#8217;s migratory habits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"amp-o-paragraph\">It travelled some 3,700 miles (6,000kms), and was traced to the Blue Nile Valley in eastern Sudan before the charity lost contact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"amp-o-paragraph\">EcoLogic told the\u00a0Super Express\u00a0newspaper that somebody found the tracker in Sudan, removed the sim card and put it in their own phone, where they then racked up 20 hours&#8217; worth of phone calls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"amp-o-paragraph\">Radio Poland says that the organisation has received a phone bill of over 10,000 Polish zloty ($2,700; \u00a32,064), which it will have to pay.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I strongly suspect the stork was cooked and eaten, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This story is amusing, and so very African: A Polish charity has received a huge phone bill after it lost a GPS tracker that it had placed on the back of a stork, it&#8217;s reported.
