Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day.<\/p>\n
In Russia, when I was there, this meant the women from the office would get dressed up, apply makeup, do their hair, and be showered with chocolates and flowers by all the men and after lunch they’d crack open the champagne and get drunk, celebrating the joys of being a woman.<\/p>\n
In the west, from what I can tell, a subset of women piss and moan about how terrible it is being a woman and demand their lives are improved at the expense of men. The majority of women carry on as normal.<\/p>\n
This morning on the BBC we had a female presenter (the same one I mentioned in this post<\/a>) say something like this:<\/p>\n “There are reports that women find it harder than men to attract investment from hedge funds and other investors. Which is surprising because many women start their own businesses. They’ve realised that with having a family and taking care of kids they can’t have a full career in a big company, so they start up on their own to get the work-life balance they want.”<\/em><\/p>\n I’m trying to think of something more damaging to the campaign for women to be taken more seriously in the workplace than having a female presenter come out with that on national television.
