1.\u00a0By the time you hit 30, the likelihood of your deciding that marriage and family\u2014not career\u2014is the most important thing in your life is astronomically high.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yup.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Whom you choose to\u00a0marry, not which career you choose, is the single most important decision you’ll ever make.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Uh-huh.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0The quality of your marriage will have more effect on your happiness and well-being than anything else in life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Indeed.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Divorce doesn’t solve problems\u2014it creates new ones.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Probably true in many cases, possibly even most. There will be exceptions, though. If your husband is kicking the shit out of you, it’s probably best you don’t stick around. And this:<\/p>\n

getting divorced will likely\u00a0ruin you financially<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If only that were true of women, we’d probably see a lot fewer divorces.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0If you remarry,\u00a0rest assured your new husband will\u00a0have just as many warts as the first.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yup. As someone wrote in a review<\/a> of my book: “as you get older everyone has baggage. The key is whether people with different backgrounds can justify their decisions and create a compatible relationship”.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0There are things you can do to strengthen your marriage so it doesn’t crash and burn.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A relationship takes work, particularly communication and compromise. A lot of people I’ve met don’t seem to understand this.<\/p>\n

Trying to be a big shot powerhouse and still be a sane, loving and\u00a0engaged\u00a0wife and mother\u00a0is\u00a0futile. Those two worlds don’t intersect\u2014they collide. They are\u00a0in direct competition\u00a0with one another,\u00a0as\u00a0Indra K. Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo, courageously admitted<\/a> in 2014.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I recently listened to a Freakonomics podcast<\/a> with Indra Nooyi, and she came across very well. She appears, at least to me, to be a genuinely successful female CEO and deserving of the post, not one just parachuted in to please the diversity department. Whereas this:<\/p>\n
