I can barely be bothered to read infantile posts that people who consider themselves adults have been posting on my Facebook feed for the past 24 hours, but I’ve seen enough to detect\u00a0a\u00a0common theme.<\/p>\n
When you read the opinions of “liberals” as to what America has become following Trump’s election, one would be forgiven\u00a0for thinking they are describing what America has become\u00a0under Obama.<\/p>\n
Take this<\/a>, for example:<\/p>\n We\u2019re angry because our candidate\u2019s losing means this country will be less safe, less kind, and less available to a huge segment of its population, and that\u2019s just the truth.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n If a McCain supporter had said that in 2008 he would have been proven absolutely correct.<\/p>\n Those who have always felt vulnerable are now left more so.<\/span> Those whose voices have been silenced will be further quieted.<\/span> Those who always felt marginalized will be pushed further to the periphery.<\/span>\u00a0Those who feared they were seen as inferior now have confirmation in actual percentages.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Again, this is what Trump’s supporters must have felt in 2008 and 2012.<\/p>\n It\u2019s about overt racism and hostility toward minorities.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Black lives matter? \u00a0Christian bakers?<\/p>\n It\u2019s about religion being weaponized.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n A weaponized religion. \u00a0Think about that for a second.<\/p>\n It\u2019s about crassness and vulgarity and disregard for women.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Yes, Obama and Hillary supporters are unfailingly polite. \u00a0That’s why Twitter is such a pleasure to read. \u00a0And I wonder what Sarah Palin thinks about how they view women?<\/p>\n It\u2019s about a barricaded, militarized, bully\u00a0nation.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n None of which could apply to Obama’s years in office, of course. \u00a0No, America has only become like this in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n It\u2019s about an\u00a0unapologetic, open-faced ugliness.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n That ship sailed a long time ago, I’m afraid.<\/p>\n And it is not only that these things\u00a0have been ratified by\u00a0our nation that grieve us; all this\u00a0hatred, fear, racism, bigotry,\u00a0and intolerance\u2014it\u2019s\u00a0knowing that these things have been amen-ed\u00a0by our\u00a0neighbors, our families, our friends, those we work with\u00a0and worship alongside.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Indeed. \u00a0This is precisely what prompted many reasonable people to vote for Trump, in a desperate attempt to turn the ship around before it’s too late.<\/p>\n We wake up today\u00a0in a home we no longer recognize. \u00a0We are\u00a0grieving the loss of a place we used to love but no longer\u00a0do. This may be America today but it is not the America we\u00a0believe\u00a0in or recognize or want.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Was that taken from a Trump campaign speech?<\/p>\n This is not about a difference of political opinion, as that\u2019s far too small to mourn over.<\/span> It\u2019s about a fundamental difference in how we view the worth of all people\u2014not just those who\u00a0look or talk or think or vote the way we do.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Liberals are saying they value those with different opinions?! \u00a0Seriously?<\/p>\n If only these people were capable of looking in the mirror they might begin to understand why they lost. \u00a0Instead we get this:<\/p>\n And this is why we grieve.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n You may be at it a while.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I can barely be bothered to read infantile posts that people who consider themselves adults have been posting on my Facebook feed for the past 24 hours, but I’ve seen enough to detect\u00a0a\u00a0common theme.
