I first saw it posted on the noticeboard outside the office of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desertsun.co.uk\/blog\/4966\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a> great man, and it had a lasting impact on me.<\/p>\n<p><em>Never believe the worst of a man<\/em><br \/>\n<em>When once you have seen his best,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Of any loyalty worth the name<\/em><br \/>\n<em>This is the surest test.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Gossip is ready at every turn,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Your faith and trust to slay,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>But the loyal soul is deaf to doubt,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Whatever the world may say.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Whatever you hear on others&#8217; lips,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Don&#8217;t let it soil your own;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Let your faith still stronger be<\/em><br \/>\n<em>While the seed of slander&#8217;s sown.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Keep the image before your eyes,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Of the friend who&#8217;s a friend to you:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And stand by that friend through thick and thin<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Whatever the world may do.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Never believe the worst of a man,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>When your own soul sees the best;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>All that matters is what you know<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Not what the others have guessed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And if all that you know is straight and fine<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And has brought you friendship&#8217;s joys.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Be proud to treasure the truth that&#8217;s yours,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Whatever the world destroys.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This poem seems appropriate today.
