Dim Duchess

Not the brightest bunch our royals, are they?

The Duke of Cambridge has said the publication of topless photographs of his wife in a French magazine was “all the more painful” given his mother’s experience with the paparazzi.

Paris-based agency photographers Cyril Moreau and Dominique Jacovides are accused of taking long-lens shots of the royal couple, including the topless pictures, from a public road.

Prince William’s written declaration was read out by the couple’s lawyer Jean Veil.

He said: “My wife and I thought that we could go to France for a few days in a secluded villa owned by a member of my family, and thus enjoy our privacy.

“We know France and the French and we know that they are, in principle, respectful of private life, including that of their guests.”

Here’s a tip for our future queen: when outside, don’t wander around topless – even if you think nobody can see you.

Perhaps I’ve lived a somewhat sheltered life, but I’ve never met a decent woman who goes topless outdoors, for any reason. Indoors yes, but not outside. One would have hoped the Duchess of Cambridge had a bit more class than this, for heaven’s sake.

  1. You’re reading this wrong, Tim; they’re highly intelligent.

I’d be very happy to get a £1.5m pay day for a picture of my missus’ baps.

  2. That’s what he gets for marrying a gold digging commoner.

The shots were a bit grainy but they didn’t do much for me, I do think her arse is better to look at than her boobs though, not as good as her sister’s mind you. Anyway everyone knows he is gay, unlike his brother who doesn’t have his father’s genes.

Yes, I think you have 🙂

In my (much) younger days I have had many girlfriends who did, and I didn’t perceive them to be otherwise more morally degenerate or lacking in class than the ones who didn’t. A couple who I later found to have questionable morals, didn’t.

Anecdote, of course, is not data.

Ah, but were any of them royalty? 🙂

  5. France….?
Remind me again…isn’t the national icon of the French a bare breasted lady storming the barricades , tricolour and norks swinging in the breeze? Avant mes Enfants and all that?

My only concern about the whole incident, then and now (way to kick sleeping chiens , Billy boy btw- I wonder how many have googled the original images that showed far more than just your wife’s breasts) is the question of where, in the name of high quality zeiss optics, was their security detail? A public road, a vantage point, within sight of ….

  6. addendum:”within sight of two prime targets” (take that anyway you like!).

  7. A public road, a vantage point, within sight of ….

Exactly. As I said, not the brightest bunch.

  8. Well Billy The Kid might think himself lucky, it could have been sooo much worse. Remember the SHOCK when it came to light that his Sainted doe-eyed mother quite enjoyed blasting poor-liddle-bambi’s brains all over the countrycide?
Imagine if the Duchess had wandered out naked onto the balcony, naked save for royal t-shirt jammed between her legs and had lit up a post-newlymarried-coital ciggy?
Dear God, it doesn’t bear thinking about. The Royal Mother To Be smoking, nay POLLUTING, the freshly conceived heir to the throne.

  9. Does minor aristocracy count?

I could talk about an Italian countess, but I won’t because I am a gentleman.

  10. Typical BBC, suppressing the most important part. You’d think they would have added the photos to the article so everyone had the whole picture, as it were, and could make an informed decision.

  11. Especially when the British subjects paid for the holiday and the BBC you would at least expect the photos to have been in the public eye.

  12. Ah, but were any of them royalty?

No – I never stooped so low. Of course, some may by now be ‘royalty’ by marriage. 🙂

  13. Especially when the British subjects paid for the holiday and the BBC you would at least expect the photos to have been in the public eye.

Heh! Good point! Shouldn’t the British public own the rights to the photos?

  14. And the lawyers’ fees as well!

Yes, exactly but I think we ought to show a little bit of compassion as at the time of their well deserved break, hubby was worried that once he was let go from driving choppers around and between jobs he would have been clobbered with the dreaded bedroom tax. What with 75 bedrooms between Amer Hall and Kensington Place for their family size he would have been in big trouble. At least he ended up finding another job, good for him.
