I once had breakfast in the canteen of the South Autralian coal and electricity company, in the back of beyond. All the accents around me were British. On enquiry I was told that the Brits will do these jobs but that their Aussie-born kids leave home to go to college and refuse ever to return. The bog-standard suburban Aussie wouldn't dream of considering living there either - his "outback" is strictly somewhere to be sentimental about, not to inhabit.

Funny that you should write about this, as just this morning i recieved a comfirmed offer for a position in Oz. But like you said its in an oil town, population 1200 in the middle of the outback, but at least its rotational. But it appears the company is willing to take on the expence of sorting the visa and relocating me out to Oz.

What is interesting is though i applied for three jobs with the company of which 2 where in Brisbane and the one in the outback. They didn't seem to have a problem filling them Brisbane jobs with locals but it seemed they struggled to fill this one hence having to look abroad. But it seems that Oz is slowly waking up to this fact that they need people as the temp visa (4year) that i will be on does come with certain tax breaks and the like should i get it.

Anyway best of luck with your applications, i found i got a better response applying directly through the companies rather than with the head hunters.
