Lynch Spin

A couple of weeks ago, a young black celebrity actor/songwriter named Jussie Smollett was walking down the street at 2am in a dodgy part of Chicago when he was set upon by two honkies wearing MAGA hats and carrying a noose and a jug of bleach. Apparently his assailants knew he was gay and wanted to lynch him, but he fought them off and returned home, the Subway sandwich he was carrying at the time miraculously unscathed. The response from blue checkmark Twitter and seemingly the entire Democrat party was to immediately declare the incident a premeditated, racist, homophobic attack of the sort which is now commonplace in Trump’s America, and that the MAGA hat is no different from a Klan hood. If there was a lesson to be learned from the Covington Catholic school debacle which happened only a few days before, the media, politicians, and NeverTrumpers chose not to apply it.

Meanwhile, deplorables were casting doubt on Smollett’s story. Not just because it was full of inconsistencies, but also because any story which has noose-bearing white supremacists wandering around Chicago at 2am in winter sounds more like something from a Coen brothers film than a police report. There’s also the small problem that near enough 100% of these high-profile hate incidents – slogans drawn on Air Force lockers, swastikas on walls, homophobic messages carved in flesh – have proven to be fake, carried out by provocateurs to reinforce the narrative that the US has reverted to the 1950s. Compounding this are the UVA rape hoax, mattress girl, the Duke Lacrosse scandal, and other false claims which the media and politicians lapped up then doubled-down on. And sure enough:

Chicago police are pushing back on media reports that said the alleged attack on “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett was a hoax and say the reports are “unconfirmed by case detectives.”

Two Chicago media outlets reported Thursday that multiple sources told them that investigators believe the attack was staged.

Police spent much of Thursday interviewing two persons of interest in the case, who are believed to have been seen on surveillance images on the night of the attack.

Charlie De Mar, a reporter at CBS Chicago, spoke on Thursday with family members of the two men who were being questioned. They told De Mar that the men are brothers from Nigeria. They left for Nigeria on the day of the attack, De Mar reported. De Mar posted a search warrant receipt, showing that investigators had found a laptop, shoes, and bleach at the home.

CBS Chicago also quoted Gloria Schmidt, an attorney for the two men, who confirmed that they know Smollett.

“They do know Jussie,” she told the station. “They have worked with him on ‘Empire.’ My preliminary investigations show that on set it’s very tight. They’re all very cordial with each other, so they’re baffled why they are people of interest.”

I expect over the next few days the official narrative on this story will unravel faster than a middle-aged feminist’s dating plans. The media will bury the story, and those who reacted will simply switch to slandering three-quarters of their nation via some other incident of manufactured outrage. The problem is, these people want the story to be true. They’re so invested in the narrative that America is full of hate-filled white supremacist homophobic rapists that they’re positively begging for someone to be violently assaulted or killed in order to validate it, and are almost disappointed to find their worst fears unfounded. There’s something seriously wrong in the head of America’s elites, and I’m not sure there’s any fixing them.

  1. Tim, the “attack” seemingly place on a street just north of the Chicago Riverwalk within short walking distance of DuSable Bridge, Tribune Tower, The Wrigley Building etc. That’s no dodgy area, especially by Chicago standards. The Trump International Hotel is nearby though – so maybe that’s what incited these awful homophobic thugs to don their MAGA hats and beat up this poor fella.

  2. Those headlines just keep coming! My hat off to you Tim!

On the money again. The ‘liberal’ left (that alone is a perversion of the meaning of liberal that hurts me deep down inside) is desperate to prove that the deplorables are merely a ‘bunch of cvnts’ and are prepared to go to any lengths to do so.

I see your list and raise you one Kavanagh and the Russian collusion.

Ah, that contradicts what I read from Chicagoans on Twitter. I confess, I wouldn’t even know which way up that city was.

Trump was probably in the lobby, handing them out in person.

    Thanks!

    Indeed.

  5. Also enjoying the blog titles.

But you have some serious competition!
Over on “Gates of Vienna” this story is referenced thus:
If his story turns out to be false, can we say it was #FakeNoose?

  6. If his story turns out to be false, can we say it was #FakeNoose?#

Damn, I wish I’d thought of that!

  7. BTW Tim, have you got a Puns-R-Us app for all these headlines?

Heh, no but I’ve found – like all forms of writing – there’s a knack to it, and once you’ve figured out what it is it becomes a lot easier.

  8. I remember when the Rolling Stone UVA fraternity gang rape story came out. I read the original article and I’m proud to say instantly diagnosed it as total bullshit. Reason being one of the alleged rapists apparently said to a more reluctant one “You chicken? Do it or you won’t get into the frat!” Now we have Jussie’s alleged attackers shouting “This is MAGA country!”

If a story is designed to press all the buttons of a particular demographic, it is probably bullshit. If it also contains 50s B-movie dialogue, any remaining doubt is removed.

  10. I know these hoax crimes are buried as quickly as possible but there is a cumulative effect that the left cannot deny as much as they try.

  11. This thing smelled of bullshit from the get-go.
    SecondCityCop:

“So on the second coldest night of the year, a Hollywood actor, bundled up against -20 degree wind chill, was recognized by two “fans” in the dead of 0200 hours, on Lower Water Street (a known hangout for the seedy underbelly of MAGA supporters?) who happened to be carrying a canister of bleach and a piece of string, just in case they ran across a black, gay, Hollywood actor wrapped up against the elements in a place known more for homelessness than for the star set being seen in public.”

  12. @Tim “The problem is, these people want the story to be true.”

    Repeat a lie often enough…

But then again, Thud’s suggestion might cut through all this.

  14. I’ve never met a white Nigerian. There must be some but even my son-in-law who was on contract in Ajuba said the whites he met were all expats.

  15. (I)nvestigators had found a laptop, shoes, and bleach at the home

My God! Hells fire and black lead! What is the world coming to when people can keep laptop computers, shoes and bleach in their houses?

Clearly proof of something or another … (the world desperately needs a sarcasm font, right enough).

  16. “My God! Hells fire and black lead! What is the world coming to when people can keep laptop computers, shoes and bleach in their houses?”

That was my reaction. It reminded me of a past news item where the anti-terrorist police were proudly showing-off the diesel and fertiliser they’d found on a farm somewhere…

  17. Note the key points in that paragraph of the story…

It is not reported what exactly is in the search warrant word for word, nor the warrant in the context of the situation. Putting aside that some homes that I’ve been in, a bottle of bleach would look significantly out of place…or soap for that matter, they likely have bleach from the crime scene to match, possible shoe prints or damage from shoes to match, and any laptop holds enormous potential in a case where a conspiracy is suspected. But a (almost said “the”) reporter doesn’t want to mention that. He’s got column space to fill and any subtle way that he can use that to make the police look stupid and his clients…uh, I mean the suspects…look like victims of soyscomstance, he’s gonna use it. Dindonuffin I believe is the expression.

  19. I’ve never met a white Nigerian.

I saw the occasional albino in Lagos. They make for such a bizarre sight it’s hard not to stare. At least they seem to get left alone in west Africa, not chopped up and eaten on the orders of witchdoctors like in east Africa.

  20. The sad fact is that most of these “victims” don’t seem to grasp that the vast majority of the “straight white males” out there simply don’t give a damn.

I first started to wonder about the whole gay-bashing white straight male thing when I noticed a couple of oddities: Where I was in the 1980s, we had a bunch of immature jackasses that liked to boast about going gay-bashing. These same guys seemed to be obsessed with gays, gay behavior, and were stereotypical homophobes. Interesting thing was, when I ran into some of these same idiots a decade later, when they were in their 30s and 40s…? More than a few of them were fully out of the closet, and embracing the “gay lifestyle”.

From this, I observe a couple of things: The typical straight male is not threatened by homosexual behavior because he won’t have any attraction to it, whatsoever. The closeted gay, who hates himself and his orientation/desires? They are threatened by it, because it makes them question their sexuality, and they don’t want to be gay, they want to “fit in”–So, they’re the most likely ones to be going out gay-bashing. Average straight white dude simply goes “Oh, you like boys? Well, I like girls, so…?”, and leaves it at that.

I’m not kidding, either: Just about every single one of those guys I knew as 20-somethings that were stereotypical homophobes later came out of the closet as full-on flaming homosexuals. I can’t say all of them did, but every one that I ran into in later life…? Yeah; gay as a San Francisco bathhouse. It’s kinda the same with the whole black-white thing; the majority of the really outrageous Klan membership were from backgrounds that included the proverbial “n****r in the woodpile” thing, and because of that, they were the most vocal and actively racist in the white community–They had the most to lose, if they were ever “outed”, so they reacted by being more racist than the racists. It’s a weird human behavioral syndrome.

  22. The two Nigerian brothers were arrested because Smollett said on Good Morning America interview that those two must’ve been his attackers. The police got the names of the two brothers based on the redacted phone record that he turn over. Unlike Smollett, the two brothers got their own legal representatives and are cooperating with the police.

He was worrying about being written out of the show. Self fulfilling prophecy.

  23. As the story continues to crumble aficionados of this site will surely appreciate the fact that the rope in question was apparently purchased at a hardware store called “Crafty Beaver”.
