Merry Christmas

A very Merry Christmas to all my readers! I wish you all the very best over the festive season, and thank you so very much for reading and commenting.

I’ll be back in a day or so. In the meantime, I’m off to roast a chicken (habit from childhood: my mother preferred chicken to turkey, and I’ve stuck with it).

Enjoy your day, wherever you are.

  1. Seasons greetings to you Tim and to all your readers from me.

I just survived pork belly, rack of lamb, 2010 shiraz and brandy trifle, which was all very well served down here at Palazzo Bardonici.

Might struggle getting back into my slim fit work trousers next week!

  2. All the best for Christmas. Thanks for the posts. Particularly grateful for the correctives to the MSM nonsense about President Trump.

  3. And you, Tim.

We’ve lunched on potted shrimps, accompanied by a sip or two of White Port.

Then a mince pie and a coffee.

Even as I type, goosey things are happening in the kitchen. My beloved went down the garden earlier to crop some thyme. Mmmm.

  4. Merry Christmas Tim. Thanks for all the great writing. We have a white Christmas here, first time in years (decades?). It’s beautul, but we live up rather high and may not get out to see the family. Oh well, I’ll still take it. Enjoy the holiday.

  5. I would prefer almost *anything* to turkey, but the tradition is too-well established: it’s off to a niece’s home later in the day. Merry Christmas to all, and wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. Thanks to Tim for the commentary and to all of you for the community.

  6. Dinner polished off here, so now reclining with Port and cheese.

Thanks (sincerely) for a great year of blogs. Hopefully get across to Paris to buy you lunch soon.

  7. Merry Christmas all! Venison here today and it went down well although I probably ought to have given it another few mins roasting time.
    All the best for 2018,
    Mark

  8. Enjoying a Delirium Noel here (10% beer) complete with its own special glass. My wife, a professional cook, is preparing some sort of pork loin with oranges and I have no idea what else. All I know is that I’ll enjoy it. 🙂

Thanks for the posts Tim and a Merry Christmas to all.

    Cheers!

  9. All of the very best to you, Tim. Thank you for your perceptive and incisive writing

  10. Now that Xmas is past, a note on the use of “very”. The best English teacher I had said that when you’d finished writing something, go through it and take out (almost) every “very”.

I find I have to do the same with commas, though I much prefer over-commad English to under-commad.

Indeed, and I was partway through doing that when something in the kitchen needed my attention and I thought “fuck it, who* is going to start grumbling about a message of Christmas cheer?” and cancelled the edit.

*Other than dearieme of course. 😉

  12. Thanks for all the compliments and wishes, folks!

Hopefully get across to Paris to buy you lunch soon.

That would be awesome, regardless of who pays!
